Appreciation:
The Carr Mara Trust, it's board and it's member clubs thank the Garden City Golf Club for all it's hard work and attention to detail in the playing of the 8th Carr Mara Trust tournament. The Club's board of directors, entire staff, including manager Dan Rekus, golf professional Bob Rittberger, Greens Superintinent Mike McAlevey and the ever popular head waiter, Mister Hogie derserve a full standing ovation. The Torrential rains were overshadowed by the fantastic welcoming and hospitality shown by Tournament chairman T.Merrick McQuilling and co-chairman Mark Brosnan.
As it is known the Garden City Golf Club is to America as St. Andrews Golf Club
is to Scotland, a museum of Golf. The Club house tours of the archieves, artifacts,
and history of the club was most enjoyed by all. The Chartiable auction of the
Rory Mcilroy golf bag was a big hit and run to perfection by John Quqley. Thank
you Garden City for the Gift bags with the Fantastic Tournament information/directory
books, a Big hit indeed.
The Carr Mara shined it's brightest on the Tuesday evening at the BK Sweeneys
pub sing song night, 150 strong in full vocal was heard throughout the town.
Stephen Walsh not only won the gross medal but also won the entertainer of the
year.
A big thanks to guest speakers, golf historian David Normoyle, Golf analystt Peter Kessler, and Golf TV personality Jimmy Roberts, the history and stories were relevant and spot on. The suprise video appeareance by the one and only Joe McAleese, recieived a well deserved standing ovation.
The tournament and fabulous gala ended with none other than Dr Conor O'Brien, Carr Mara Trust CEO, aka Dr COB leaving us wanting more with a terrific golf poem and well wishes until we meet again in Ballbunion 2023.
Hip Hip hurray Garden City Golf Club.
